There is a lot to see and do at Pukaha this summer. Bring the whole family for a great day out, pack a picnic and stroll to the top of the Loop Walk or enjoy some delicious home-made goodies from our very popular Cafe Takahe. Family passes (2 adults and up to four children) are still only $38.00.
Our summer programme includes the following activities - all are included in the entry price:
10 am Takahe Talk. Enjoy hearing about the successful re-introduction of these highly entertaining birds to Pukaha.
Our kiwi chicks are just over two months old and continue to progress well. Most have moved out of the nursery and are in outdoor enclosures. Here they learn to forage, feed and fend for themselves.
This weekend - on both Saturday and Sunday at 2pm - you will be able to see one or two of the chicks as they are taken for weighing and checking. We not only have our chicks from our forest, but also some chicks from Rimutaka Forest. The opportunity to see chicks is so limited, we really hope you can make it.
New chicks thrive
The chicks are about 2 months old now and are progressing well. Several have moved out of the nursery and are in outdoor enclosures. Here they learn to forage, feed and fend for themselves.
Chicks doing well
One of the three chicks born just over two weeks ago is doing particularly well. He has been moved from the brooding room to an outdoor enclosure. He is steady on his feet and feeding by himself.
An enormous thank you to the hundreds of Pukaha supporters (and garden lovers) who came to the Bird and Garden Tour on Saturday. It was a unparalleled success and we are delighted with the feedback.
The Bird and Garden tour is a sell out! Thank you for your fantastic response!
We look forward to welcoming to all our guests on the 30th. Funds raised on this tour go toward the nocturnal kiwi house upgrade.
